Research projects undertaken

MNRE Research Project

The college is executing a Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Govt. of India sponsored project Development of an efficient biodiesel reactor for rural application and utilization of multi feedstock derived biodiesel in medium capacity diesel engine. The total grant sanctioned by the ministry is Rs. 20.92 lacs. During this research project, a biodiesel processing unit of 600 liters per day capacity has been developed and process optimization of different biodiesel has been completed . The feedstock selected for this project are high FFA rice bran oil, jatropha curcus, karanja and a locally available species in Rajasthan known as thumba. The extensive trial of biodiesel in a medium capacity diesel engine (7.5 kW) has been completed. One year storage stability study has also been performed during this project.

PCRA Research Project

The college is executing PCRA sponsored research project Development & process optimization of a medium capacity state of art biodiesel processing unit. The total grant sanctioned by PCRA is Rs.15 lacs. During this project a biodiesel processing unit of capacity of 1000 liters per day has been designed and its commissioning is in progress.

Yanmar Research Project

The college is also executing a Yanmar Co. Ltd., Osaka, Japan funded project Performance & Endurance Tests on a Yanmar 10 KW diesel Generator set fuelled with neat biodiesel (B100). During this project, a Yanmar 10 kW diesel engine shall be run for 10,000 hours continuously on neat biodiesel to assess the suitability of neat biodiesel application in existing design of diesel engine. The project is aimed towards development of a biodiesel specific engine considering the outcome of the project.

Consultancy Work

The college is consultant to World Bank Funded project “Fences for Fuel” . The consultancy work includes setting up jatropha cultivation at the fences of the field of farmers of Viratnagar Block of Jaipur District and setting up bio-oil extraction facility, biodiesel production facility and decentralized power generation facility. Cooking stove fueled with jatropha oil and biodiesel have also been developed during this project.

The college is Consultant to National resarch Development Corporation (NRDC) in a UNDP Funded project. The consultancy work includes establishment of jatropha cultivation and biodiesel production unit at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka .

The College also plans to have synergetic partnership with leading industries in the area of biodiesel so that both institute and industry can work together for a noble cause.
