The Department of Biotechnology was founded in 2004 with a vision to make an impact through research and technology based training. The Department has teaching and research programmes which encompass various basic And applied aspects of modern biotechnology. The main objective of the Department is to provide academic training and conduct research in the interdisciplinary areas of biotechnology with a particular emphasis on extending the knowledge generated from these studies towards the development of technologies of commercial significance. The Department admits students for Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Biotechnology and Master of Technology (M.Tech) in Bioinformatics. This department since its inception emphasizes on appointing meritorious faculty in various specialized branches in Biotechnology. The faculty members have been excellent teachers and research Scientists, and most of them are fellows of National Academies. Currently the department has 8 faculty members, about 80 undergraduate and 40 postgraduate students and associated staff. Research interests of the department are Bioprocess technology, Enzyme technology, Plant Biotechnology, Bio nanotechnology, Biosensors, Computational biology, Genomics, Proteomics, Bioinformatics, Animal and Plant Tissue culture and Drug Design. The Department has four laboratories based on Curriculum: Bioprocess & Downstream processing, Biochemistry & Enzyme Technology, Molecular Biology & Genetic Engineering and Computational Biology. The department regularly organizes scientific lectures & symposia in which Scientists and Academicians are invited. The department has started annual biotechnology magazine, ALLELE & invites recent articles& updates for the same. The students of the department organize a technical festival KARYON every year. Computer lab in the department has 30 machines connected with internet to perform computation and simulation work
