Las Vegas: April 8, 2011: Nevada Policy Research Institute (NPRI), Las Vegas, United States has created a new college scholarship in the honour of Prof. R.S. Nigam, former Director, Delhi School of Economics and Member, Board of Management, Delhi Technological University, which will be awarded to a graduating high school student in Clark County, Nevada with a demonstrated potential to make a strong contribution to the free-market cause.
The ‘Prof. R.S. Nigam and NPRI Freedom Scholarship’ amounting of $2,000 is open to all high school students in Clark County, Nevada who intend to pursue a four-year degree program in business, economics, political science, public administration or a related field, at any accredited college or university. Interested candidates need to have a grade-point average of at least 3.2, with a parental income of less than $100,000 in the year 2010. They will be required to write an essay on “How would incorporating free-market principles into Nevada’s K-12 education system impact student achievement and the quality of education in Nevada?”
The scholarship has become a possibility due to generous donation of $25,000 from Prof. Nigam’s, son Mr. Swadeep Nigam, who is an active member of NPRI and has resided in Las Vegas for past 25 years. “This scholarship is a fitting way to honour Prof. R.S. Nigam, a man who is devoted to education and has taught both at University of Nevada, Las Vegas and around the world. We are grateful for this opportunity to honour Prof. Nigam and also to help provide an opportunity for a hard-working Nevada student to continue his or her education”, said NPRI President Ms. Sharon Rossie.
