Cricket match at DTU for underprivileged children of Navjyoti

Delhi: October 21, 2010: A friendly cricket match was held today at the campus of Delhi Technological University (DTU), formerly Delhi College of Engineering, which was participated by the underprivileged children and youngsters supported by Navjyoti India Foundation (established by Dr. Kiran Bedi) and employees of SAP Lab India, which is also a patron of Navjyoti.

The cricket match was inaugurated by Prof. P.B. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, DTU in the presence of Mr. O.P. Shukla, OSD, DTU, Mr. Rohit Gupta, Programme Director, SAP Custom Development and Ms. Neetu Sharma, Project Head, Urban Development Programme, Navjyoti India Foundation, among others. Prof. Sharma urged the participants to play with the sportsman spirit and enjoy the game without bothering about winning or losing the game. Dr. Kiran Bedi, who is currently out of station, also conveyed her best wishes to the participants, telephonically and thanked DTU administration for providing the necessary support.

Four teams were formed on the occasion, which included a mix of Navjyoti children and SAP officials that played two semi-final matches of eight overs each. The winning teams of semi-final matches played the final match of 10 overs. The winning team of the final match was felicitated with a trophy.  Individual prizes were given to two batsmen, two bowlers, two man of the match and one man of the series, which included bats and balls autographed by popular cricketer Mr. Virender Sehwag. All prizes and awards were sponsored by the SAP Labs India.

The friendly match turned out to be a truly enjoyable experience for the children of Navjyoti and employees of SAP.
