DCE to be upgraded to Delhi Technological University

Appreciation mails from DCE's Alumni regarding Delhi Technological University

  • Honorable Chief Minister Ms Sheila Dixit

It is with great pride that I am writing to you regarding my dear Alma Mater.

I am a graduate of Delhi College of Engineering (Class of 1969). I have a lot of exceptional graduates from Delhi College of Engineering employed by my companies in both India and USA .

I truly believe myself and my associates who graduated from DCE received very good education at the institution. Delhi College of Engineering stands out among colleges and universities offering engineering curricula and is respected and recognised all over the world. It has gained reputation not only that it has produced scholars and entrepreneurs but excellent engineers. Its product ( the graduates) have brought glory to it by being among Commonwealth Scholars, Nuclear Engineers (among the first ones in the 50's who were responsible for the commissioning of the very first heavy water plant in India and fusion research and the start up of the nuclear power plants), members of the railway board, distinguished academicians and inventors).

More recently the students at DCE are getting good recognition with the research and projects they are doing in the area of alternate energy sources and in UAV’s for both defense and commercial applications.

We feel that DCE deserves the status of a university which will allow administration to have independence in hiring world class faculty and forge cooperative relationships in research, student and faculty exchange with universities around the world. I am aware that your administration is proposing to introduce a bill in the Delhi Assembly to grant the status of a university to DCE.

I will be remiss if I did not say that a lot has happened under the leadership of the current Director Professor P.B.Sharma who was also the organizer of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Delhi Polytechnic in 1991 at the Old Campus at Kashmiri Gate.

Let me thank you again for the foresight that you personally and your administration have shown in advancing this task.

  • Dear Dr. Sharma,

Indeed it is an accomplishment for DCE staff and students, and yr sustained efforts all these years is well acknowledged at the highest level in the Government. Therefore, please accept our hearty congratulations.

Are there any concret expectations from DTU in the next few years?

Are there other similar Universities in India, and how are these progressing?

One suggestion would be to set up an Alumini Network of all the past students of Delhi Polytechnic, DCE particularly those who are settled overseas. Through this Data Base of past alumni, domestic companies in India will have excellent opportunity of tapping the export market.

Best wishes on your added responsibilities in the new role.

  • Dear Hon'ble Chief Minister Sheila Dixit Ji

Upgradation of Delhi College of Engineering(DCE) to Delhi Technological University (DTU) is a monumental decision for which the credit goes to you. Please accept my heartiest congratulations.

There is little doubt that you will be rememberd for generations for this far-sighted step to get DCE out of the clutches of Delhi University(DU) and the UPSC. DU strangulated DCE by not allowing the updating of the academic programmes over many years. And, UPSC showed no concern for hiring any decent faculty on time for years.

Being a well wisher of DCE, I have been urging Prof P B Sharma, the Principal of DCE, for years to pursue with you vigorously the goal of achieving autonomy for the institution. Now that the persistence of Prof Sharma has been fruitful, it is my sincere hope that the new governance and mangement system of the University based on autonomy with accountability will help DTU reach much higher heights in the academic sphere, as also in serving the Knowledge Economy of the country. Thus, the dream of Pandit Jwahar Lal Nehru to convert DCE to an IIT will ultimately be fulfilled.

  • Honorable Madam Dixit,

Today, I came to know of wonderful news from Prof. P.B. Sharma on upgradation of DCE to Delhi Technological University. I would like to convey my deepest thanks to you on taking a lead in granting the status of University to DCE. This is the greatest news for DCE’ites in North America and around the globe.

We truly believe this is only possible because of your dynamic & sincere efforts in taking a lead as a Chief Minister who understand the value of Academic& Administrative Autonomy.

Again sincere thanks on behalf of DCE Alumni Association of North America (DAANA).

We do look forward to welcoming you as a guest of honor along with Prof. P.B. Sharma in our global alumni reunion in New York in spring’ 10.

    Secretary – DAANA
On behalf of DAANA Governing Board

  • Dear Professor Sharma Ji,

    Congratulations!!!!

Your efforts paid off. But now the real Work Starts. Perhaps we can now think of how the alumni can help DTU in formulating its academic programs and World Outreach.

I think there are great opportunities for DTU for one being in the Capital and another being independent in forging relationships with universities and institutes around the world. One of the things that needs immediate attention is to see how we can bring the Alumni living in the US together and create a situation where the cooperation among various groups is coordinated.
